I'm Emily, and I have been a successful performer, voice teacher, grant writer, academic, career facilitator, stage director, and producer for over three decades.

I love project development, collaboration, and community.

WORK WITH ME

Voice Teacher

I am on the faculty of Bucknell University as an Associate Professor of Music and Director of Bucknell Voice Lab. I have taught masterclasses in the United Kingdom, Iceland, New Zealand, Australia, and North America and have been on the voice faculty at The Royal Conservatoire at The Hague. I look forward to expanding my studio to Europe. Having worked extensively as a performer in opera and recital, I am a sought-after masterclass clinician, artist-in-residence, producer, and stage director.

My typical student is usually a collegiate artist, young artist, professional Western classical singer, or mid to late-career artist looking to revamp their technique and/or stretch their teaching muscles. As a lover of high notes, breath, and physical engagement, I look forward to working with you in the voice studio. I have taught all types of students, from undergraduate to doctoral, professional to young artists. My students have had success all across the spectrum, including loving what they do. Our job as singers is to learn technically what is happening with the body and then engage that knowledge without controlling it. I love working to gain ease in high voices and to encourage healthy breath engagement.

Performer

American lyric soprano Emily Martin has regularly received acclaim for her “enchanting iridescence” (The Sarasota Herald-Tribune) and has been called “dramatically energetic and skillful” (The Philadelphia Inquirer). Hailed by The Chicago Tribune as one of ten “The Best Classical Recordings of 2020” and by Fanfare Magazine as “works spectacularly well,” Emily recently released the album, Let Evening Come: American Songs Old and New, on Albany Records, which collects the songs of never-before-recorded American composers.

Emily’s career in opera has spanned debuts with such companies as the Santa Fe Opera (Peter Grimes), Palm Beach Opera (Thâis), Nevada Opera (Turandot), Chautauqua Opera (Cosi Fan Tutte, Ruddigore), and Skylight Music Theatre (Midnight Angel, The Little Prince, Don Giovanni, and Rosina), among others. In oratorio, chamber music, and song, Emily has appeared on numerous occasions with many premiere arts organizations around the world, including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Anchorage Festival of Music, Fargo-Moorhead Symphony, and was invited by the Amerika Haus at the US Embassy in Vienna, Austria to perform a recital for the 100th birthday of Leonard Bernstein.

Facilitator

Recently awarded a Fulbright Scholar Award for 2022-2023 to work and research in the New Audiences and Innovative Practices program at The Royal Conservatoire at The Hague, I have produced and co-created several award-winning successful community engagement projects as an ideator, strategist, and educator.

As an entrepreneur, Emily has begun multiple successful projects, including em2CONNECT, a small creative facilitation practice comprising the high-energy and ideas-driven duo of Emily Martin and Elizabeth McDonald. Emily is a Faculty Fellow at Bucknell University for the new Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation.

em2CONNECT specializes in rebranding, repositioning, and promoting flexible thinking around creative careers.
